Dog Town Lake Campground
Kaibab National Forest campgrounds
Prairie dogs once called the broad open ponderosa parkland home. Now the dogs are gone and a small-boat lake stocked with crappie and catfish offers scenic campgrounds for fishermen, paddlers, and campers wanting to explore the surrounding forest, or anyone looking for a quiet hangout.
In spring and summer, wildflowers turn the shoreline into a blanket of gold. The 1-mile Ponderosa loop trail winds through the wooded forest. Facilities include 50 RV/tent sites (30 reservable) with table, fire ring, water nearby, vault toilets, picnic pavilion. Some sites pull-through but no hookups or dump station. White Horse Lake Campground (14 miles farther down FR 173) offers similar facilities with a dump station. The nearby Cataract Lake is now day-use only, no camping.
From Williams turn south on Fourth Street (FR 173-Perkinsville Rd.) for 3.5 miles to Forest Road 140 (gravel but easily passable). Turn left on FR 140 and continue for 3 miles to FR 132; turn left onto FR 132 and follow it to Dogtown Lake.
