Charlotte Square

Monumental Georgian plaza

The Georgian House

Along with St Andrew Square at the eastern of George Street, Charlotte Square was designed to be one of the New Town's principle plazas. A relatively quiet spot, just beyond the bustle of Princes Street and George Street its grand buildings are still among the most important in the city.

Bute House

The vast mansion on the north side of Charlotte Square is centered on Bute House. Though the residence of the First Minister of Scotland, currently Nicola Sturgeon, there's little to suggest its importance outside.

Georgian House

Instead most visitors are drawn more towards its neighbor, Georgian House at number 7, which has been restored to evoke the 18th-century life of Edinburgh's upper classes.
