Georgian House
An introduction to Edinburgh's New Town
The Georgian House mansion rises above Charlotte Square, a plaza with an attractive gated garden, in the pattern of so many buildings in Edinburgh's New Town. For this is a planned settlement and the building the brainchild of Robert Adam, Scotland’s foremost 18th-century architect.
Inside, Georgian House has been restored to evoke the 18th-century life of Edinburgh's upper classes.
This has meant repainting interiors in original colours and furnishing them with period items to recreate the world of its first owner, Argyll-born landowner, John Lamont, the 18th Chief of the Clan Lamont.
