Aitutaki In-A-Day

Get some wheels & explore the island

Remember, the main reason you’ve come to Aitutaki is to go out on the lagoon, so this itinerary exploring the island is for a second day.

The main island of Aitutaki is a joy to explore, but keep in mind that its total land area is only 16.8 km2 (6.5 sq mi) - it’s not very big! It’s only about 9km from Arutanga to Ootu Beach, taking about 15 minutes on a scooter.

Get yourself some form of rental wheels. The middle bit of the island is reasonably hilly, while the stretch out past the airport runway to Ootu Beach is flat. There aren’t really any must-sees. It’s more of a take-it-all-in and enjoy day.

A bicycle is great for around the flatish periphery of the island, but you might want an e-bike, scooter or car, to explore the whole island.

Highlights

1 The unsealed road around Te Koutu Point at the southern tip of Aitutaki.
