Atiu

Atiu (pronounced like a sneeze!), population around 400, is the third-most visited and third-largest island, but very, very few holiday makers get this far. This helps preserve it as an eco-paradise, yet it’s relatively accessible for those willing to make the effort.

Northeast of Rarotonga, Atiu can be reached in 45 minutes on Air Rarotonga, which has a varying number of flights a week.

A haven for naturalists and bird-lovers, visitors come to check out its limestone caves and to try and spot the endangered kakerori (Rarotongan flycatcher), released here in in effort to save the species.

The island has five small villages on its central plateau. There are limited facilities for visitors on the island. Atiu produces some of the best Arabica coffee beans in the Pacific.
