Graeme Hall Nature Sanctuary
A stroll among the mangroves
If you’re seeking to connect with nature and escape the bustle of the South Coast, then head to Graeme Hall Nature Sanctuary. The island’s largest remaining mangrove wetlands – though still fairly small – reopened in 2025 after being closed to the public for 16 years.
Meander through the mangrove forest, on the look out for crabs and terrapins, and gaze out across thelake – in the winter months you may catch sight of a majestic osprey or other migrants – over 200 species have been recorded here. The photogenic egret colony is a permanent fixture.
Two large aviaries packed with parrots (such as the sun parakeet, pictured above) are highlights for most visitors – you can buy feed and have them eat out of your hand. There is also a serpentarium and a short film.
