Surfer's Bay
Breezy, relaxed vibe (d; $–$$)
Set on a low-lying bluff on the South Coast, Surfer’s Bay is a casual, rustic affair, with a raised wooden deck overlooking the ocean, and picnic tables scattered around its informal gardens. Being close to the surfing beaches of the South Coast, this pleasantly breezy bar-restaurant is a favourite hangout of surfers, but remains undiscovered by most other travellers. This, in part, is because it’s hard to locate but the fairly-priced beer and strong cocktails (especially at happy hour) make this unpretentious place well worth seeking out. The food is unpretentious ‘pub grub’: burgers (meat, fish and plant-based) with West Indian curry, rotis and mac pie – to remind you where you are. Check the Facebook page as there’s sometimes live music at weekends, and a cosy campfire to gather round.
Note: it’s easy to get lost getting here. Follow signs for the Moonraker Hotel.
Close to Silver Sands on the South Coast. Accessible from Fairchild St Bus Terminal (Bridgetown) via the #13B bus.
Mon–Wed 3–9pm, Thur–Sat noon–9pm, Sun noon–10pm.
