Foursquare Rum Distillery
Premium rums & heritage park
Although Mount Gay hogs the publicity, Foursquare Rum Distillery offers visitors a better all-round experience, in part because the distillery and the bottling facilities are all in one space, and also because of the excellent tour of the expansive grounds and heritage park (pictured below). Plus you get more rums for your tasting.
Foursquare is a striking blend of state-of-the art rum-making equipment and historical buildings. The original distil house was constructed in 1747, then restored in the 1990s, while the modern distillery, with its giant pot and column stills, is located in what was once the old sugar factory.
The walls of old oak barrels are an impressive sight, though the highlight for most, inevitably, is the rum-tasting. This takes place in the Copper Still Bar, where you get to sample six premium rums. Needless to say, bottles of rum are also for sale, though the very top of the award-winning range are whisked away for export.
