Perth

Sunrise from a different perspective

It might be one of the world’s most isolated cities, but Perth doesn’t feel like it’s missing out on much. Optimistic, wealthy and drenched in more sunshine than any other Australian capital, it’s a thriving, vibrant place, fringed by topaz ocean beaches and buzzing with an ever-expanding cachet of hip restaurants, bars and cafes.

Ambitious new developments are redefining the city centre, from riverside Elizabeth Quay and its swathe of eateries, public art and landmark Swan Bells, to spectacular museum Boola Bardip. Sprawling directly to the southwest of central Perth is Kings Park and its commanding views.

From central Perth, the Swan River flows towards Fremantle. Once a gateway for millions of new migrants, the port is now better known for its heritage streetscapes, cosmopolitan vibe and attractions, among them the WA Shipwrecks Museum and World Heritage-listed former prison.
