Australia has a thriving theatre scene, particularly in its larger cities. Leading professional companies include Sydney Theatre Company, Melbourne Theatre Company, Brisbane-based Queensland Theatre, Adelaide’s State Theatre Company and Perth’s Black Swan State Theatre Company of WA. All present seasons of new and classic works, both Australian and international.
Important new Australian works are also often performed by Belvoir St Theatre and Griffin Theatre Company in Sydney, Malthouse Theatre, Red Stitch and First Nations Ilbejerri Theatre Company in Melbourne and La Boite in Brisbane.
