Restaurants

Austin is a relatively small city, and its collegiate roots are apparent in its restaurant offerings, which tend to be dominated by American, barbecue, Continental, Mexican, southern, and Tex-Mex, many serving generous and reasonably-priced dishes in relaxed surroundings. While Austinites would welcome more selection, visitors still have plenty to choose from.

The restaurants below are local favorites, but the list is by no means exhaustive. The Austin Visitor Center's list of key food trucks is a good one and poke around Austin 360, the Austin Chronicle and Edible Austin for a more in-depth look at specific establishments.

Meals & Prices at-a-glance

At-a-glance information has also been provided for all the eating options in this app: the subtitles of each entry are marked with the codes:

  • d = dinner

  • $$ = entrees mostly $10–20
