Carajillo
Coffee & brandy
Coffee with a shot of brandy (though it can be rum, anís, orujo or whisky too).
There are two main versions about its origin, one that it was the drink of choice of Spanish soldiers in colonial Cuba when they mixed alcohol with their coffee to give them “corajillo” (a bit of courage) and another that the name derives from the muleteers who gathered at Barcelona’s Estación de Francia, drank a shot and then shouted “que ara guillo” (“now I’m off”) as they started work.
