Day 4: Ullapool–Lochinver
36 miles/1hr

This is the shortest day of driving, but once you’ve done one or two of the suggested stops, or gone out of your way on a tempting detour, the time will quickly disappear!
Try to make a point of visiting the Summer Isles by boat (cruise or kayak) if you can, and be sure to do a hike or two as well. Knockan Crag is the most rewarding short one, but there are lots of other and bigger options, particularly around Lochinver.
If you’ve a regular-sized vehicle and are looking for a better coastal drive, then consider turning off the main route just south of Knockan Crag (signposted Achiltibuie - see detour on route map above) and making your way to the Cogaich penninsula and then north to Lochinver on a wonderfully scenic backroad. It’ll add at least 30 min to your journey
The sequence of points-of-interest along the route is: Ullapool - Summer Isles - Knockan Crag - The Bone Caves - Ardvreck Castle - Lochinver
