Baie des Anges

Angel Fish Bay

Many believe that the name Baie des Anges, or Bay of Angels, derives from the angel fish, a kind of harmless shark, that the local Niçois fishermen catch in the waters off Nice. Shaped like a ray, its fins look like wings. Legends abound and one suggests that when the boat carrying the body of Ste. Réparate arrived on the coast near Nice it was accompanied by angels.

Another legend suggests that when Adam and Eve were expelled from the Garden of Eden they were brought here by angels who believed that the countryside was almost as beautiful as the Garden of Eden. Who am I to disagree?
