Baños del Inca

Ancient & modern hot springs

Atahualpa statue at Baños del Inca near Cajamarca

Baños del Inca is the perfect way to start the day in Cajamarca, and it is better to go in the morning since it gets more crowded as the day goes on.

The springs were developed by the Caxamarca culture more than a thousand years ago and possibly by other cultures before them. Their popularity has destroyed much of the archeological evidence as the Inca built on top of Caxamarca constructions and today’s modern buildings are on top of all that. Only the Inca Atahualpa’s private pool a few small buildings remain accessible to archeologists and historians.

Menu of options and prices at Baños del Inca

Today there is a long menu of options (above) from a large swimming pool to small private pools, called pozo. A smaller building has jacuzzis (hidromasaje on the menu), saunas and massage rooms. You can also just pay s/6 soles and enter for the picnic areas near the pools and to see Atahualpa’s pozo.
