Inti Raymi Festival

Theatrical celebration of Inca culture (Jun 24)

Actor portraying the Inca in Cusco Plaza de Armas

The Inca holiday Inti Raymi (June 24) is the biggest celebration. If you are able to be in Cusco on June 24th, plan to spend the whole day watching the celebrations at the Qorikancha, in the Plaza de Armas and at Sacsayhuaman.

The Coya, Inca’s wife, at Inti Raymi 2022

What you see at Inti Raymi is a scripted re-enactment done by actors in Quechua. It’s loosely based on records the Spanish kept about Inca culture. Events at the Qorikancha start at 9am, followed by a celebration in the Plaza de Armas at noon and the last part of the festival at Sacsayhuaman at 4pm.

Inti Raymi bleachers at Sacsayhuaman 2022

Peruvians come from far and wide, but it’s the Cusqueñians who know how early you have to arrive to get a good spot where you can see the action. At the Qorikancha or Plaza de Armas, arrive by 6am. It’s difficult to get a good spot at both. Arrive by noon for a good spot at Sacsayhuaman.

All three locations have bleachers set up where you can see everything. Tickets for those reserved seats are available at Inti Raymi Peru.
