Trujillo In-A-Day
City & Archeology
Trujillo has a beautiful historic center and you can still visit some of the colonial wall around the old city. Trujillo is most famous for the nearby archeological sites, but if you have only one day, I suggest seeing the city and just two of the archeological sites.
Breakfast
Breakfast at your hotel because the best breakfast place doesn’t open till 8:30 - but if you want to start the day a bit later go to Jugería San Agustin on Jirón Bolivar 522.
8:30am
Take a taxi to Huaca de la Luna. I suggest getting there right at 9am so you can be in the first tour. Tours leave every 45 minutes and you can visit the museum before or after the tour of the archeological site. You can bring your own guide if you want to be on your own schedule but guides are required.
Noon
Have lunch at Squalos on Calle Díaz de Cienfuegos. I highly recommend the pineapple ceviche above.
1:30pm
Take a taxi to Chan Chan. I recommend having a guide here because it’s a giant space without a lot to see unless you know what you’re looking at. The museum closes at 4:00 so try to leave at least half an hour for the museum.
5:00
Take a taxi back to the center of the city. Walk from the main plaza to the eastern gate. Take the pedestrian Jirón Francisco Pizarro, which goes by several historic landmarks on the way to the gate. (below)
