Peru - Day-hiking Ollantaytambo to Inti Punku Sun Gate 44

Compared to Rainbow Mountain and Humantay Lake, this is a much shorter drive from Cusco and a much longer hike.

Many people take a tent to camp out and be at the Inti Punku (which means Sun Gate in Quechua) when the sun rises. However, it can absolutely be done as a day hike, provided you’re ready for a lot of hiking.

Not many agencies offer this as a day hike, but if you are good with maps, just check out the hiking directions from Cusco’s Hike Club Facebook group.

Note: There is also an Inti Punku on the Inca Trail; where you get your first view of Machu Picchu as you hike the Inca Trail.
