Peru’s Wildlife In-A-Week

Meet the Amazon

Caiman at Lake Yacumama Puerto Maldonado

One week focused on wildlife gives you time to visit the Peruvian Amazon, which has some of the most incredible biodiversity on the planet.

Each place takes several days travel by boat to get to protected places where you will see wildlife rather than development. That means with one week you only have time for one. The three best options for that are:

  1. Arrive in Lima and fly to Puerto Maldonado to visit Tambopata Reserve and Bahuaja Sonene National Park
  2. Arrive in Lima and fly to Cusco to visit Manu.
  3. Arrive in Lima and fly to Juanjuí to visit Río Abiseo National Park
