Cusco Museums
Though I love museums, I don’t love many of Cusco’s museums. It’s just hard to compete with the incredible richness you find in the archeological sites. If you only have time for two, I would go to the Qorikancha for the mix of Inca and Colonial cultures & Museo de Arte Precolombino for art from around Peru.
If you want to learn something but for it to be fun and interactive, go to the Traditional Textile Center of Cusco where you can learn about how to dye wool with natural materials and how to make yarn and weave traditional patterns.
The other option is the ChocoMuseo: You can learn about chocolate and the cacao tree, which is native to South America. This is part of a chain that has museums in Lima, Mexico, Guatemala & Nicaragua. Two locations: Plaza Regocijo and Calle Hatunrumiyoc 480.
Another private, commercial but still fun museum is Museo de la Coca It’s about the coca leaf’s importance in Quechua and Inca culture and the ceremonial uses of the plant. Plazoleta San Blas
Most museums in Cusco only accept cash.
