Gare de Nice

Nice Ville Main Station

This elegant building, designed by architect Louis Bouchot in the Louis XIII style and built in 1867 on avenue Thiers for the ‘Chemins de Fer de Paris à Lyon à la Méditerranée‘ company. Modernised several times it has nevertheless retained its original stonework and roof.

Nice Ville Main Station

Known as ‘Gare Nice Ville‘, to distinguish it from the Nice St Riquier and Nice St Augustin stations. It is located is on the Marseille-Ventimiglia railway and has been host to several famous trains in its day, including the famous and sadly now defunct, Blue Train. Nowadays of course it is the terminus for the TGV from Paris, a journey of less than six hours.

At the time of its construction, the station was well out of Nice centre. However, during the intervening years the city has grown beyond the station. Nevertheless, it is about 1 km/0.7 m from the Promenade des Anglais or about 15 minutes walk.

If you are travelling onto Italy from Nice you can reach Milan, Genoa, Venice and Rome from this station.
