Saint-François-de-Paule
Church of St François-de-Paule at Nice
This Piedmont style Baroque edifice, with a bit of the neo-Classical thrown in, stands on rue St François de Paule which leads from the Jardin Albert to the Cours Saleya. The Minimes constructed the church between 1736- 1775. At the time this street was the nicest and most important in Vieux Nice.
Change of address
The religious order known as the Minimes had based themselves originally in Place St François. The church, occupied today by the Dominicans, has links with Cathédrale Ste Réparate.
Baroque statues
Relatively plain for the Baroque style and painted grey, the motto of the Minimes ‘Divo Francisco A. Paula Charitas‘ (To St Francis Paul A Charity) is still proudly displayed over the door. Moreover, if you are into churches, there is much to see in the interior including a polychrome wood statue of the Virgin and several representations of the patron Sainte Dominique.
