It’s hard to miss the 328m Sky Tower, the tallest structure in the southern hemisphere. It can be seen from all over town, with its height and shape producing a slew of nicknames, not all of them printable. Night sees it lit up in a rainbow of colours.
It takes 40 seconds in an elevator to get up to the observation decks at 220m above street level, from where the views of Auckland are unbeatable. That’s not it though - you can Sky Jump (bungy), Sky Walk (walk around the outside ring of the tower with no handrails) and dine up there with the views.
At the base of the tower, the SkyCity Auckland entertainment complex houses two hotels, a dining precinct with over 20 bars and restaurants, and a casino.
