Devonport

Short ferry trip from Downtown

Auckland City from Devonport

Auckland’s North Shore waterfront suburb of Devonport lies only a 12-minute ferry ride away from the Downtown Ferry Terminal, so makes a great escape from the bustle of the city. Commuters use the ferries heading into town in the morning and back home in the evening, but you’ll likely be in for a peaceful cruise across the harbour during the day.

There’s lots of interest within walking distance of the Devonport ferry terminal. Victoria Rd features quaint cafes and eclectic shops, while you can climb Mt Victoria, the North Shore's highest volcanic cone, for a 360-degree lookout.

On North Head, explore military tunnels, bunkers and gun emplacements and relax on Cheltenham Beach, a local favourite and perfect picnic spot with views straight across to Rangitoto Island. North Head was a top viewing spot during the 2021 America’s Cup.
