Paparoa NP & 'Pancake Rocks'

Layered rocks & blowholes at Punakaiki

Amazing Rock Formations

The easy 30-minute ‘Pancake Rocks’ loop walk at the tiny township of Punakaiki is well worth the effort, 44 km north of Greymouth and 57 km south of Westport.

Dolomite Point is home to curious limestone formations of pancake rocks and blowholes that are totally captivating. There’s lots of parking and Paparoa National Park Visitor Centre is opposite the walk entrance.

There are excellent walks and hikes in the Punakaiki area including the 3-4hr Pororari–Punakaiki Loop Track that can be walked from the Visitor Centre.

There’s accommodation nearby and Pancake Rocks Cafe offers more than just pancakes and pizza.
