Key Summit Hike

Enjoyable 3hr hike for views

key

This iconic walk starts at The Divide (532m) on the Te Anau to Milford Hwy and is essentially, the western end of the Routeburn Track. The walk is initially through beech forest, then breaks from the main Routeburn Track to zigzag up to Key Summit at 918m.

Views are incredible and you’re really on the South Island’s water divide. The Hollyford River heads west to the Tasman Sea; the Greenstone River heads east to Queenstown’s Lake Wakatipu, then eventually to the Pacific Ocean; and water in the Eglinton River flows to Lake Te Anau and eventually out to the southern coast.
