Emerson's Brewery

A truly great beer story! (l,d; $$)

Emerson's Bookbinder

Classic story – young Dunedin bloke, keen on homebrew, is made redundant from his job; goes on a global trek to discover the beers of Europe; parks up for a year in Edinburgh; comes home with the recipe; makes beer in the family kitchen; Dad gets his mates to chip in to start a brewery in 1992; roaring success locally; 20 years later Emerson’s sold to NZ giant Lion Breweries, themselves owned by Japanese giant Kirin Breweries; everybody makes big $$$.

Now Emerson’s has a massive flash new $25 million brewery, shop, taproom and restaurant on Anzac Ave, near the university in Dunedin! And it’s definitely worth a visit.
