Ben Lomond Track

Big climb to the peak (6-8hrs)

22105-the ben lomond track

Ben Lomond is the big peak directly behind Queenstown township. It’s 1748m in height, meaning a big climb from Queenstown (320m) - easily shortened by taking the Skyline Gondola up and down, cutting out 500 vertical metres of climbing and descending.

This is an alpine track to be taken seriously, especially in times of changeable weather. Be prepared and visit the DoC Visitor Centre in Queenstown for a weather forecast, info on track conditions and advice before setting out.

If walking from town, hike up the steep Tiki Trail from the bottom of the gondola, then follow signage from the gondola’s top station. Views are spectacular from Ben Lomond Saddle (1326m), but even better from the peak (1748m). Allow 6-8 hours return to the summit, depending on your fitness level.
