Kayaking

When in doubt, get the oars out! New England has many lakes, not to mention an ocean, for those who enjoy kayaking and canoeing. Key spots not to miss include:

Lake Champlain - Vermont

Duh. 120-mile glacial lake offers broad open-water paddling with Adirondack and Green Mountain views, plus sheltered bays for easy day trips. Island campgrounds and historic lighthouses

Connecticut River Paddlers’ Trail

Covering over 400 miles from the Canadian border to Long Island Sound, this route strings together public campsites and scenic farmland. Sample short day sections or embark on ambitious multi-state expeditions

Great Bay Estuary — New Hampshire

Inland bay with salt marsh channels, oyster beds, and rich birdlife. Wildlife abounds. Experienced paddlers can take on the Atlanatic while others can enjoy tranquil creeks

Moosehead Lake, Maine

Remote canoeing, loons at dusk, and a frontier-style wilderness feel at Maine’s largest lake

Lake Winnipesaukee, NH

Champlain Islands, VT

Keep an eye out for Champ
