Champlain Islands, VT
Keep an eye out for Champ
The islands in Lake Champlain between Burlington, New York, and the Canadian border mark one of the most inviting stretches in New England.
Dotted with state parks, pick-your-own farms, and general stores, those journeying along the causeway or off of it are greeted with lakeside vistas and opportunities to hike, bike, kayak, and swim.
And, keep an eye on the lake... you might spot Champ, Lake Champlain’s lake monster.
Cycling
Riding the islands is a bucket list activity for cyclists. Rent a bike in Burlington from Local Motion who also man the ferry over a 200 foot gap en route to the islands on the Colchester Causeway.
Hiking
There are many options to explore on foot too. Pelots Natural Area offers three miles of easy trails, excellent night sky viewing, and good birdwatching in many ecological niches.
