Cape Ann

Ocean vibes in every town

Cape Ann Oct '15

Cape Ann has a bit of everything coastal: Gloucester is America’s oldest seaport. Rockport is an artsy seaside town. For the beach, head to Manchester-by-the-Sea. Wildlife? Essex has two wildlife reserves!

Boogie boarding at Good Harbor

Glouchester

Gloucester was a fishing town in 1623, well before there was a United States of America.

Today, fishermen still mend nets and pull their trawlers into the harbor. The town has the iconic fisherman’s memorial, “Man at the Wheel”, a bronze statue honoring those who died at sea.

One place to visit is Maritime Gloucester, a working waterfront, maritime museum, and has old schooners to tour.

Good Harbor is a hidden sandy beach gem for some sun and surf. At low tide, it’s possible to walk across a sandbar to Salt Island.
