USS Constitution
Old Ironsides still on active-duty
Still manned by active-duty Navy sailors, “Old Ironsides” was first launched in 1797.
It is the world’s oldest commissioned warship still afloat. Built in Boston and famous for her victories during the War of 1812, she earned her nickname when cannonballs bounced harmlessly off her oak hull.
Today, she rests proudly in the Charlestown Navy Yard, where visitors can step aboard and explore her decks.
Across the pier, the USS Constitution Museum brings the ship’s history to life with hands-on exhibits.
