Lexington & Concord
Ground zero for American independence
Those famed “Shots heard round the world”, were the first fired on the Lexington Green, marking the first military engagements of the American Revolutionary War (aka the War for Independence) from Britain on April 19, 1775.
At Concord a larger engagement took place the same day. Not only do these two towns have important historical significance, but they have restaurants, museums, historic homes, farmers markets, and boutiques worth visiting.
Lexington
The Lexington Battle Green is a great start place to see the famous Minuteman Statue (this entry’s map location) that honors the volunteers who served as first responders to military threats.
Ye Olde Burial Ground has been in use since 1690, and the Hancock-Clarke house was where revolutionary leaders John Hancock and Samuel Adams got the message from Paul Revere that the “the Regulars are out”, meaning “The Redcoats are coming.”
