Mohegan Bluffs
Stairway to beach heaven

For a proper New England windswept feeling, the awe inspiring Mohegan Bluffs rise nearly 200 feet above the Atlantic. Visitors descend a long wooden staircase — 141 steps to be exact — to reach the secluded beach below, where waves crash against the towering clay cliffs.
The walk back up is steep, but think of what you can enjoy at the top: the sweeping panoramas, the chance to spot Montauk, Long Island. Also, that unforgettable sense of standing at the edge of the ocean.
While there, check out Southeast Lighthouse, built in 1875 in brick and granite.
If the Mohegan Bluffs are too rocky or rough, Baby Beach, Scotch Beach, and Surf Beach are very swimable options on Block Island.
