Crime & Health

Weekend Franeleros 24

Mexico City often gets a bad rap when it comes to crime, and while one should never take safety concerns lightly, most of the neighborhoods that tourists gravitate toward are not considered dangerous.

Having said that, you should take the following precautions: avoid carrying ATM cards and large amounts of cash, do not hail taxis on the street (order an app-based cab instead), watch out for pickpockets on crowded buses and metro cars, and do not purchase illegal drugs.

To contact the police, dial 911. If stopped by the police, you’re not required to pay a fine (or bribe) on the spot, despite what some officers might suggest.
