1060–1147: Almoravid

Marrakesh was founded around the 1060s by Youssef Ibn Tachfine, leader of the Almoravids, a fundamentalist movement of desert Berbers from Mauritania.

The Almoravids' only surviving monument is the The Almoravid Koubba. Youssef Ibn Tachfine's tomb is near Lalla Hasna Park, but is not open to the public.
