Car & Motorcycle
Great for exploring Japan

Renting a car is a great option if you want to explore off the beaten path, rural or mountainous areas and is relatively easy with English-speaking GPS navigation systems.
You’ll need an International Driving Permit and be mentally prepared to drive on the left-hand side of the road.

Expressways has info on Japan’s 10,000km of kōsokudōro, toll costs, ETC cards, and a variety of Expressway Passes that are available to foreign visitors.
If you’re after a rental motorbike adventure in Japan, check out Bike Rental Japan. Hokkaidō, in particular, is great for bike touring, with Rider Houses set up to accommodate bikers.
