While winter sports enthusiasts drool over the snow at the Furano Ski Resort, Japanese visitors flock to Furano in summer to see its truly spectacular flower fields, particularly the lavender.
Japanese think of this as their equivalent to the south of France - surprisingly it’s about the same latitude! As well as the flowers, you’ll find Furano Winery, the Furano Cheese Factory, plus an extremely convivial mountain resort ambiance.
Neighbouring Biei (美瑛), to the north, boasts a picturesque landscape of gently rolling hills, vast fields and is a delight for both cyclists and drivers.
Daisetsuzan National Park is also close at hand.
