Skiathos

The lush island of the Sporades

Skiathos harbour

The main island of the Sporades chain, Skiathos has something for everyone.

You can swim in golden beaches along the south coast – Koukounaries is a favourite as it has an organised section with sun beds and water sports plus an unorganised, quieter part with hidden coves.

Skiathos’s beaches are unique as pine forests tumble down almost to the water’s edge, making for a beautiful swimming environment.

Take a boat trip from Skiathos Town – the capital – to Lalaria Beach where white cliffs dramatically tumble into the sea. Here you’ll also find the remnants of a medieval castle and fans of hiking can hike to it, offering sweeping views across the landscape.

Skiathos

Skiathos is unique in that it’s the one Greek island that offers excellent scuba diving opportunities. Expect to find shipwrecks, labyrinthine caves and reefs. Courses are offered.

Nightlife comes alive in Skiathos Town with its many bars and more traditional tavernas. A family, group or couple’s holiday, Skiathos has everthing.

Practical Info Practical Info icon

Many European charters fly to Skiathos in the summer months, or several daily connections from Athens.

Ferries depart from Agios Konstantinos port and from Volos Town on the mainland.

There aren’t direct ferry routes to Skiathos from Athens, but you can take a public bus to any of the mainland ports mentioned here.
