With the many hours of sunshine all year, and very little rainfall, Greece is the perfect outdoor holiday destination as very little time is spent indoors, even by the locals.

While Greece’s Beaches are the big pull, if you have more energy, you’ll find many lovely hikes too.

The best ones are listed below–particularly in the Pelion and Peloponnese regions of the mainland, and the famous Samaria Gorge in Crete, not to mention trekking and hiking on Mount Parnassos in Central Greece.
You’ll also find some nice treks and hikes around the mountainous villages of the Epirus region of Northern Greece.

Check out Mindful Travel Experiences for their in depth look at trekking, hiking trails and mountaineering around Greece.

Nefeli Nine Retreats is a small group company in Athens who runs walking tours around the mountains of Parnitha, Penteli and Hymettus that surround the capital.

They also run week long retreats.
