Yaki Point

Sunrise specialty

Perched on the point of a promontory jutting into the canyon, you’ll see the inner gorge framed by sheer ridges reaching from the cliffs and a city of skyscraper buttes and pentacles fading into the distant North Rim.

The sunrise peeks over the far end of the canyon and streams of light pour down the gorge making this a favorite spot to morning meditation. The Rim Trail ends at South Kaibab Trailhead about .4 mile west but hikers have blazed foot paths along the rim to the viewpoint.

Private cars aren’t permitted but the shuttle stops every 30 min. starting at 4:15–4:30 a.m. and every 15 min. from 6:30 a.m. to 1 hour after sunset in the summer. Check the off-season schedule in the park newspaper.
