Uncle Jim Trail

Forest hike, viewpoint reward

At trail’s end, look down on hikers struggling up the switchbacks of the North Kaibab Trail and wish them luck. In contrast, Uncle Jim’s Trail cruises 5 miles roundtrip on mostly level plateau through shaded ponderosa forest. Look for wildlife, sit on the rim and contemplate the vast panorama, listen to the breeze in the pines.

The trail begins two miles north of the Lodge at the North Kaibab trailhead and follows the Ken Patrick Trail to the turnoff for the viewpoint loop. If you’d rather, you can ride a mule to the viewpoint or to the Ken Patrick trail junction.
