Islander has several shops and workshops around Edinburgh and offer visitors the chance to acquaint themselves with the venerable tweed-making traditions of the Outer Hebrides in guided hour-long workshops.

For around £70 – plus the price of the bag you want to make (you can change your pick on the day once you’ve seen the selection) – you’ll get a first-class keepsake or very personal gift with a little fun crafting in the process. There’s lots of support on hand, so be assured you’ll leave with a perfect product, even if you’re a little fat-fingered.
