The Meadows & Bruntsfield Links
Urban lung, playground & picnic spot

Edinburgh's busiest bit of greenery is usually the Meadows, a large tract of grass that adjoins another, smaller, one: Bruntsfield Links.

Both are criss-crossed by tree-lined paths and dotted with sports facilities (tennis, croquet, cricket, pitch-and-putt-golf, jogging paths) and playgrounds, but most of the area is simply grass. This makes it the perfect place for a summer barbecue or a picnic.

Tennis
The tennis courts at the eastern end of the Meadows are always open, at times when there is a charge to play you can also hire equipment: Apr–Sept Mon–Fri 4pm–8.30pm, Sat & Sun 10am–6pm; Jul & Aug Mon–Fri 9am-9pm, Sat & Sun 10am-6pm.
