The best of the Périgord Vert

This peaceful small town can be found in the north of the Périgord 22miles/35km north west of Périgueux and close to the Parc Naturel Régional Limousin-Périgord. See Outdoors .

However, this peace is shattered every Thursday when the market begins. Reputedly the busiest in the area, this is the place to come for your shopping, particularly the fresh local produce. You will undoubtedly receive a better welcome than Richard the Lion Heart who was sent packing on three occasions after trying to take the castle!

The castle remains standing today although not open to the public. There is nevertheless an interesting Gothic church and some 16th Century houses. Nearby Tourtoirac, south of town, has the ruins of an ancient abbey.
