Salignac-Eyvigues
Château, Convent & village all in one
The medieval fortress in the Black Périgord and the village at its foot is an magnificent sight especially when viewed from the D60 road from Larche east of the village.
Impressive it may be but you will have to admire the Château from the outside as it is currently being restored and does not accept visitors. The towers with their conical rooves give an almost faitytale aspect to the structure. In the village itself the former Couvent des Croisés leads to the covered market place and Gothic church. Look out for the path to Eyvigues, the small village which is merged with Salignac, in order to see its 16th century Manor House.
Nearby are the fabulous gardens at Eyringnac which merge French and Tuscan styles effortlessly.
