Bantham Beach

Low tide expanse beloved by surfers

The best surf on the south Devon coast draws the crowds to Bantham, an unspoilt beach that’s framed by grass-topped dunes. At high tide there’s a strip of dry sand to lounge on; at low tide a vast beach emerges.

The Bantham Surfing Academy provides expert tuition and hires out wetsuits and boards. The Gastrobus food truck rustles up stylish beach food.

Walking trails span out from Bantham’s bewitching village and estuary, where even the boathouses are thatched.

Burgh Island sits off shore.
