Bačvice Beach

Best urban beach

A mere fifteen-minute walk from the centre of Split, Bačvice Beach is arguably the best urban beach in Croatia and certainly one that enjoys almost religious status among local people.

With a broad curve of fine shingle leading down to a luxuriantly sandy sea floor, the bay is very shallow - adults will have to wade quite a way out before finding themselves waist-deep in water.

Picigin

Bačvice is widely considered to be the home of Picigin, the game of local origin in which participants pass a ball to each other, diving acrobatically to prevent it from hitting the water.
