Seasons, Festivals & Events

Festival of Lights Zagreb 2017

The period from June to September represents the main tourist season, but there are things happening all year round in a country that offers a rich calendar of cultural events and traditional celebrations. Although the Adriatic coast remains the focus of much summer entertainment, it is worth bearing in mind that cultural events are spread throughout the country and many of the most rewarding festival experiences lie inland.

Climate & seasons

Croatia straddles two different climate zones, with Adriatic Croatia enjoying a Mediterranean climate characterised by long hot summers (when daytime temperatures can hover in the thirties) and mild winters; and inland Croatia a continental climate with dry summers but cold, often snowy winters, and frequently wet early springs and autumns.

Spring and autumn can be refreshing times to tour the country or indulge in a city-break holiday, although winter too can be an ideal time for looking around (relatively uncrowded) coastal cities such as Dubrovnik or Split.
