Punanga Nui Market

Don't miss the Saturday morning market

This is the Cook Islands’ top market, right in the middle of Avarua. You can’t miss the sprawling area on the ocean side of the main street.

The main market is on Saturday morning and you’ll want to get there relatively early, say 8.30 or 9am. There are lots of food, drink and coffee vendors, stalls selling fresh fruit and vegetables, souvenirs, art and all sorts of goodies.

The vibrant market has become known as ‘the heart of Rarotonga’ - locals turn up to catch up and socialise with friends and relatives, teenagers and school kids are running around and hanging out, and everyone is having a good time.

Enjoy cultural performances from seating in front of the stage.
